The objective of this work package is the experimental investigation of various radiation detector systems in the presence of magnetic fields for clinically relevant dosimetry tasks. Small- and large-area plane-parallel and thimble-type ionization chambers (i.e., active detectors) from established manufacturers, as well as passive detectors like TLDs, will be investigated.
The research dipole magnet and proton, helium, and carbon ion beams available in the research room of the MedAustron therapy center will be used for the characterization of the detectors in magnetic field strengths up to 1 T and the establishment of correction factors for field effects on the detector response
Panagiotis Antypas employed in this work package will be based at the Medical University of Vienna labs located at the MedAustron therapy center in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.
