Prof. Dr. Kilian-Simon Baumann

Prof. Dr. Kilian-Simon Baumann works as a professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Gießen and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Marburg. He can draw on extensive experience in the field of Monte Carlo simulations on both macroscopic and microscopic scales, especially using the Monte Carlo codes FLUKA, Geant4, and Geant4-DNA in combination
with the toolkits TOPAS and TOPAS-nBio.

His main research focus is on the Monte Carlo-based
investigation of response functions of air-filled ionization chambers in clinical proton and carbon ion
beams, also in the presence of magnetic fields.

Additionally, he employs the Geant4-DNA code to investigate the influence of ultra-high dose rates on the dynamics of the chemical phase of the radiation effect, especially concerning the production of chemical reactive species in electron and proton beams.

Furthermore, he works as a medical physics expert at the Marburg Ion-Beam Therapy Center (MIT) and has extensive expertise in organizing, preparing, and carrying out in-beam experiments. In recent times, he was enabling irradiation with ultra-high dose rates using carbon ions and protons at MIT.

As part of DosiMagic, he is responsible to lead WP 1 on studying the general effects of magnetic fields on particle beams.
